Terrifying Tuesday: Animals

Right after I started working in Houston a couple coworkers and I started Terrifying Tuesday - a night dedicated to horrible yet horrifying movies that we were too scared to watch alone. Now that we've been working for a while we've all gotten a little busy for mid-week movie parties. Stupid work interfering with my social life! But now I'm reviving Terrifying Tuesday for you guys! I'm hoping this will be something like How Did This Get Made, a freaking hilarious podcast that talks about a horrible movie each week, spoilers and all. I hate spoilers as much as the next girl, but somehow spoiling bad movies doesn't bother me at all. If you are an uber spoiler-phob, most of these movies will be available on Netflix instant and you can give them a look-see before reading on. I'm going to be blogging as I watch, but I'll put a little warning in if I have any big plot spoilers.

Animals (2008)
I have never heard of this movie, and I'm not sure how it ended up in my Netflix queue. Sometimes the movie fairies just know when a movie must be seen. Here's the provided synopsis -
After sleeping with Nora, a sexy stranger passing through town, Syd undergoes a supernatural transformation that plunges him into a frightening new reality and sparks conflict with Nora's angry ex-lover, who behaves more like an animal than a man.
Average rating: *****
Best guess for me: *****
Now if that doesn't tickle your fancy I don't know what will. It's got a love triangle, some sexy strangers, and what seems to be a sexually transmitted vampire/werewolf disease. And just look at this poster for a minute.

"The deadliest predator is already inside you." Based on what we've been told about this supernatural STD, I don't know if this tagline's pun was horribly accidental or perfectly planned. Either way, I am entertained. Obviously we don't know who is who on this cover yet, but there seems to be a lot of sexy business going on. Is the redhead wearing a wedding ring? Does the woman in black remind anyone else of Beyonce? Are these vampires or werewolves? So much intrigue already! Time to pop some corn and settle in for - ANIMALS.

Pop over to Confetti & Meatballs for the rest of the review!

The Death of Netflix as We Know It

Good god it's been forever since I've written a post! What a failure.... But I do have an excuse! I was in a car accident (not my fault) on the 15th, and I've been dealing with insurance issues and car repairs. I think there should be an inconvenience compensation along with all of the damages. I have other things to do! Like write blog posts!!

Today, I think I'm going to rant about Netflix. A few short months ago I was raving about what a great company Netflix was, but oh how the tides have turned. If you haven't heard already, Netflix raised their rates an incredible amount all at once. Mine went from $15 to $20, I think. That's a 33% increase!! OUTRAGEOUS. And on top of this disgusting betrayal, the CEO announced that Netflix would soon be splitting into two separate companies - Quickster, which will continue mailing DVDs along with the addition of video games, and Netflix, which will become online streaming only. WHAT. THE. HECK. So now I'll have to keep my movie lists up to date on two separate sites!

I don't think that's going to happen. And millions of other customers have agreed. Netflix's stock prices plummeted in the past few weeks as many customers reduced or cancelled their subscriptions. I've already reduced mine, and will most likely cancel one service (or both) fairly soon. This is so disheartening. Since I'm a totally TV/movie junkie, I really need my flix! The only way Netflix can recover from this is if they manage to stream EVERYTHING - not just the old movies from 1946 and the ones that flopped a decade ago. Either that or take back everything they're attempting to do - price-hikes, company-splitting, and game-adding.

Do it.

Do it.

Trek-Flix

Oh my sweet baby Jesus - Netflix instant just added all of the episodes of each Star Trek series. Most people have no idea how much of a Trekkie I am, but I have seen every single episode of Star Trek (the original series), Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Star Trek: Voyager. I've also seen all of the movies, not just the reboot that came out last year - which was good, just in a strange alternate universe. I tried to give Deep Space Nine a shot, but I just couldn't get into it. Because it sucked. Star Trek: Enterprise was also one that I haven't seen all the way through, but now that it's on Netflix I aim to remedy that situation.

I am such a fan of Netflix, it's ridiculous. When I first signed up, I kind of doubted that I would use it enough for it to be worth it. Boy was I wrong! I, unlike most normal humans, could watch tv and do homework at the same time. As a result, I've probably watched more television/movies in the past year than most people do in a decade.

Another bunch of shows recently added to Instant are all of the old X-Men cartoons, The Avengers, and the original Power Rangers. All of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons are just a click away! They've also got Popeye and Felix the Cat, both of which I had to watch in Spanish, since the English versions apparently didn't air in Chicago...?

I'll try and keep you up to date on the latest amazing additions to Netflix Instant as much as I can. There's an amazing amount of television shows that have been added in the last year or so, so I suggest you check it out ASAP.
