Summery Saran Wrap Nails

A couple weeks ago I put 95% of my belongings into storage, including almost all of my nail supplies. So for the next few months I'm going to be doing manis that either use super cheap supplies or stuff around the house. I'm not sure how my family is going to feel about me going through their belongings looking for makeshift nail art supplies, but I think they'll get over it.

Today I did a saran wrap mani! I've been meaning to try this out, and it ended up being way easier than I thought! All you have to do is apply one layer of polish and let it dry. Then you paint on another color and dab it with crumpled up saran wrap. It looks a bit like sponge painting, but without any sponges to clean up.
;] I picked some summery colors even though today is a bit gloomy.

Best Blog Nomination

Hey guys! I was nominated by Baroque Fool for a blogger award! I've been following her blog for quite some time, so I was ecstatic that she nominated me! Here's how it works -

Rules: Answer the questions asked of you by the blog that nominated you, then nominate up to 20 other blogs with less than 200 followers and ask 11 questions of them!

My Questions:

1. What is your favorite nail polish brand?
I'm quite a fan of OPI, but I'm going to have to go with KB Shimmer, because they have yet to create a polish that I didn't have to buy immediately. I spent an hour refreshing the page, waiting for the 2012 Christmas collection to go live.
2. Did you ever meet any of your blogging friends in real life?
I haven't met any of the bloggers I follow, except for my friends from middle/high school who have also started blogs. I'd love to though!
3. What do you prefer swatches or nail art?
Nail art. I attempt to just do swatches of new polishes, but I always end up adding something extra to jazz them up.
4. What do you like better stamping or water marble?
Stamping, although I'm not really that great at either. I'm far worse at water marbling... Maybe I'll practice that this summer.
5. Are there any colors you like only as polish but nowhere else?
Neons. They're fun for summer nails, but neon clothing always looks to fratty for me.
6. Tea or coffee?
Iced coffee!
7. Show us your best work on your blog :)
I don't know if this is my best work, but it's probably my favorite.
8. Do you ever do your friends nails?
I do occasionally  but I always feel bad because it takes a long time to do something super fancy and I feel like they get tired of sitting still. I've posted a few pictures on previous posts of friends' nails.
9. What inspires you to blog?
I really like writing, and of course I love doing my nails. In high school and college I got a lot of compliments asking where I had gotten my nails done. No one believed that I was doing them, so I decided to show them!
10. Do you have any assistants in your blogging aka shelve making hubbys? Friends who bring their discarded polish?
I wish! This is currently a one-woman show. June 1st I'll be launching another blog with two of my best friends, so there will definitely be some collaboration going on there.
11. What was your most awesome haul?
I don't go to Wal-Mart all that often any more (mostly because I am too lazy to drive and can get everything online) but last summer I braved the crowds and found a massive selection of China Glaze polishes for like $2 each. I grabbed TONS.

My Nominees:
And since I follow a bunch of non-nail blogs...
And here are my questions for you!

1. What got you into blogging?
2. If you could live anywhere where would it be and why?
3. How many blogs do you follow regularly?
4. What's one skill (singing, painting, dancing) you wish you had?
5. Do you have any tattoos and/or piercings?
6. Name your top 2 hobbies.
7. What's one thing you could never live without (not people, those aren't things)?
8. What's your favorite blog?
9. If you could make a living doing anything you wanted what would it be?
10. Do you have any special tools you use to blog? (favorite camera, photo editing program, lucky laptop)
11. What's your favorite season?

Now it's your turn!

I'm Still Alive!

Jeeze, it's been almost a month since my last post. I was SUPPOSED to start working offshore tomorrow, but there are currently too many people on the platform, so I will probably have to wait a month before I can get out there full-time. I was told about the delay after I had already given my apartment complex my move-out notice and hired movers. So I've been in panic-mode for a couple weeks, frantically packing all of my belongings and putting them into storage - including all my nail polish! I'm not sure what I'm going to do without it (probably buy more, if we're being honest lol). My nails are currently a sad, broken mess after moving boxes and furniture for so long. After a little nail rehab, I'll be back posting pictures :) I won't have my same setup, but I have an idea of how to get some decent shots.

In other news, my two best friends and I are creating a joint blog! After a few intense brainstorming sessions, we've decided to call it Confetti and Meatballs. The site isn't up and running yet, and we're still working out what exactly we'll be posting, but I assure you that it will be fun and interesting!

Last bit of news - this weekend I'm driving up to Dallas to go see Kelley! We're going to go see the new Star Trek movie and attend the Dallas Comic-Con. I've never been to a Con, but I am so excited. We didn't have time to put together costumes, but I have a feeling that we'll have a blast anyway.

Since this is a pretty boring post, I'll leave you with some funny :]

Teal and Orange Wedding Skittles

Two of my favorite people in the entire world got married this weekend!!! It was the cutest wedding ever! I like to think I had something to do with that - I suggested the wedding colors and voiced a strong opinion about the bridesmaid dresses - but really I was just along for the ride. Since I thought it was a little inappropriate to have wild colored nails for the ceremony, I went with a traditional French mani. But here's what I would have done!

Wedding Nail Sampler

I have no words when it comes to the Boston Marathon bombings today... I'm still going to upload this originally cheerful post, because during stuff like this sometimes you just need to look at something else for a while. My prayers go out to everyone in Boston today.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of my bestiest besties is getting married on Saturday! Today I put together a variety of sample nail designs for us bridesmaids.

I think I like the middle finger the best! Perhaps as just an accent nail for a normal French mani..? I'll keep you posted on what I choose!

Golden Glitterati

Have you guys seen all of the "Draw My Life" videos on YouTube lately? I think they're super adorable! Too bad I'm not a YouTuber or else I'd join in lol. Maybe one day... Instead I have some glittery nails for you! I kind of just started painting and ended up at this... It's not really a gradient because the gold I used is flakey and makes little clumps, but I like how it turned out. :]

April Fools the Internets!

I love April Fools Day!! When I was little I would try and prank my sister on a regular basis, but on April Fools Day I'd crank that shit up to 11. They were really horrible pranks, but they still managed to scare her. Teehee.

This year, most of my favorite websites have had some pretty sick posts.

NETFLIX
My favorite, and most unexpected one so far, is from Netflix. They've added a ton of incredibly ridiculous and specific genres, making fun of their already ridiculously specific genres. So far I've gotten these two, but Huff Post has a pretty good list of them

GOOGLE MAPS
Google has a bunch of different pranks this year. Google Maps "Treasure Mode" actually looks amazing, and I could see myself using it for sure.

I checked it out and played around a little bit. If you zoom into Street View, they made it sepia colored and like you're looking through an old-timey looking glass!

GOOGLE NOSE
Regular Google could not be upstaged by Maps, so they announced their latest innovation - Google Nose (Beta)! Now you can smell the internet!

GMAIL
Not to be left out, Gmail announced it's completely renovated, yet exactly the same, Gmail Blue.

YOUTUBE
YouTube (owned by Google) announced that, like Google Reader, they'd be shutting down YouTube at midnight. They explained that YouTube was originally launched as a way to find the best video on the internet, and that they'd review all of the submissions and announce the winner upon the site's relaunch (featuring only the winning video) in 2023. Again, Huff Post has all the deets. Google Reader users were not amused.

PAJIBA
Pajiba has joined in the fun by posting ironic flashback articles, all of which had me rolling on the floor laughing. So here are some links with recaps.
