Vintage Rose Tutorial

Happy St. Patty's Day!! I just got back from a weekend trip with my two besties to a B&B in Fredericksburg. It was so much fun! Since I am the palest person on the planet, I managed to get sunburned by just being outside for like two hours. *sigh*

One of the comments on my last post asked for a tutorial for how I did the vintage roses. And this is my attempt at it! I kinda just made them up as I went along, but I think I managed to recreate one :] Please excuse my rough.. everything.. I managed to break nearly every nail in the past couple days.

I started off with a base of OPI What About Van Gough? and some Essie Matte About You.

Once that was reasonably dry, I made a three-blob shape with China Glaze Peachy Keen. Having perfectly round roses looks weird to me...

Then fill it in. It doesn't have to be perfect at this point.

I then took Spoiled My Silicone Popped and outlined the edges of the flower a little. It could be right on the edge or a littler further inward. Then I added a little blob in the middle.

I did the same thing with Spoiled My Button Fell Off here and there around the flower. It just helps highlight everything.

At this point I freestyled a bit and took a little of each of the colors to just help swirl them all together a little and then drew on leaves with China Glaze Starboard.

Finally, I used another coat of the Matte About You.

Hopefully this quick and dirty tutorial will help you guys out!!

Colors used:
Base - OPI Did You Hear About Van Gough?
Pink - Spoiled My Silicone Popped
Peach - China Glaze Peachy Keen
Light Pink - Spoiled My Button Fell Off
Green - China Glaze Starboard

Polish Days: Vintage

The theme for this month's Polish Days is "Vintage" - and what's more vintage than grandma's house! I guess every grandma is different, but my dad's mom lives in a country farmhouse that is chock-full of stuff straight out of 1952 (and older). She used to have a beige-ish quilt with pink roses on it, and that's what I used as my inspiration today!

I gave it a matte finish... because it looks more vintage?

I also tried a glossy top coat just for laughs.

Colors used:
Base - OPI Did You Hear About Van Gough?
Pink - Spoiled My Silicone Popped
Peach - China Glaze Peachy Keen
Light Pink - Spoiled My Button Fell Off
Green - China Glaze Starboard

Te gusta? I'm actually really happy with how they turned out!! If you're liking what you're seeing feel free to comment and/or follow me! All of my links are at the top right of the page. The Facebook page for this blog launched yesterday. It's still pretty rough-draft, but it's an even easier way to follow! You should also check out the other Polish Days participants below!

Heart Skittles

I don't usually like hearts... but today felt like a heart kind of day! Some of the stamps didn't work out perfectly, but I like the look nonetheless. I used China Glaze Sea Spray as the base, topped it off with Models Own Indian Ocean, and then stamped with Spoiled My Silicone Popped.

Some days I don't have much to say about a post, so here's an awesome song to make up for it :)

Roses and Bananas

Hey hey hey. I have a couple random pictures to share today. Nothing too exciting. I've been going to a lot of Christmas parties lately, so I haven't had as much time to blog!

Here are some white roses stamped over OPI Thanks A Windmillion.

And this is Pretty & Polished I'm Not a Banana. My ring finger has a Spoiled Designated Driver base since this is a pretty thin color. But it's not really needed.

I hope you guys are ready for some more awesome Christmas movies. Next up is Joyeux Noel, if you want to watch it too!

Light as a Feather!

I think I'm the worst at looking at a mani and trying to replicate it. Today I gave it a shot again. And I think I actually did a decent job this time, BUT I CAN'T TAKE A GOOD PICTURE OF IT. I think part of it is that I had to use artificial lighting (like I always do). I should try painting my nails when it's not the middle of the night... Anyways, I found this design on Pinterest. And I tried to find the original blog it was on, but I could only search as far as this Tumbler... Blarg.

I started off with about a billion layers of Spoiled My Button Fell Off. It's a little pinker than it looks.

Then I applied a thin layer of Essie Set In Stones.

I was afraid that if I used the Spoiled polish as the top layer of the sandwich it would totally block out the glitter. Instead, I used Ulta Sweet Nothing. This one isn't very pinky, so the sandwich looks more flesh-colored now.

I put this up against my bleh-colored apartment walls to try and make the pink hints a little more obvious.

FINALLY I stamped on my best feather stamp. I REALLY REALLY wish I had the stamp that this girl used. It's sooooooooooo pretty. I am now officially on the hunt for it.

Here's all of the polishes I used!

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day! Since one of my besties is Canadian, I decided to make a Canada Day design. I had to make sure I included the iconic maple leaf, but everything else was just a red and white party. I used Confetti The Red Capet, Konad white, and Spoiled Shuffle the Deck.

31 Day Challenge: Day 19 Galaxies

Recently I've been describing my mood/day based on the tv shows I've been watching. Today is slightly different in that Grey's hasn't started yet, but I have spent the entire week pondering and discussing who I think is going to die (someone dies tonight). I honestly have no idea who's it's going to be. Usually I pick one, and throughout the conversation name every other person possible lol. Tired of these tv tangents yet?

Today's challenge is galaxy nails. I attempted to do this once before. I went with regular colors, not metallic ones that time. And I added in star blobs. This time, I tried to make my galaxies a little more like a pin the lovely Laurita sent to me. I think I like them better!

With flash -

No flash -

Here's all the colors I used! I started with a base of China Glaze Smoke and Ashes [far left] from The Hunger Games collection. Then I used a makeup sponge to blob on [left to right] China Glaze: Riveting, Coconut Kiss, Sexy In The City, Spoiled Pearly White Teeth, Nicole by OPI Disco Dolls, and Northern Lights Hologram Top Coat "Silver". *Phew* What a mouthful.

Next time I'm going to attempt the swirly galaxies!

Alice in Wonderland

I'm obsessing about Disney movies lately. Nothing new, really. Today's obsession is Alice in Wonderland!! I wanted some crazy nails, and that's definitely what I got. I probably should have planned this a bit more, but I actually think this came out pretty well.

Cheshire Cat
The first character I tried to paint was the Cheshire Cat. I did a purple base coat then taped over where I wanted the stripes. Believe it or not, it took ages to find tiny tape.

Alice
This was the toughest one to do. I'm terrible at free-handing stuff, and somehow this bow just didn't want to work out. It looked good, then I played with it, and then it was terrible, so I fixed it again... now it's ok.

Queen of Hearts' Rose Garden
Ya got me, this is not a person. But it's preeeeetty! I feel like this one came out of the best - which is a minor miracle. I basically blobbed on paint, outlined with a sharpie, and hoped for the best.

Queen of Hearts & Card Guards
My card guards (pointer finger) are meh. The paint pen just wasn't working and ended up smudgie. And that's all I have to say about that. My Queen is a really sweet glitter I got a while back. Give me a break, everyone in Wonderland is stoned anyway.

Here's all the colors I used!!

Revolon Top Speed: Cherry, Violet, and Jelly
Ulta: Mint Condition and For Bitten
Spoiled: Ants in My Pants
Kiss Nail Art White
Nicole by OPI: One Time Lime

I think the next movie on my list is Snow White... Wish me luck!
